After putting on a new pair of shoes i was surprised by how different i felt. I went into my next interview almost like a different person. When i crossed my legs i wasn't hiding my old (but comfortable) shoes. Anyway. Things went well and i have a new job to start next week! Was it my shoes. Not sure. But i did feel more confident and i am sure i was perceived that way. How would some shiny piece of leather make you feel better about yourself? I am not sure.
But i suppose one reason that springs to mind is that we have our inner self. Our Essence. We know who we are and have spent allot of time together with our selves (me personally, i have spent the majority of my life with myself!). But another person can only relate to us via our external garments. That is how we are perceived, and that is their entry point into our internal self.
Having nice shoes on enabled me to feel comfortable that external trappings would not hinder an inner exploration of who i really was.
Let me know your thoughts on why clothes make a difference.
